1) Depression Relief - Oils to Use & Methods of Application for Best Results by KG Stiles (Posted: May 27, 2007)
A synergy blend of essential oils can be more effective for promoting relief and healing than any single essential oil. The pure essential oils I recommend you use in a blend to relieve depression, include: Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage and Atlas Cedarwood.
METHODS OF APPLICATION:
METHOD 1: Bath ~ Fill your tub with water, add 5-8 drops of your essential oil blend that has been mixed in a dispersant such as a carrier oil, milk or cream, or a spoonful of honey, swish to disperse in the water. A half cup each of Epsom Salts (muscle relaxant, detoxifier) and Baking Soda (skin softener) can also be used to disperse the oils in your bath water.
PLEASE NOTE: Essential oils are not water soluble you must use a dispersant when adding them to a facial steam or bath and water may cause the oils to penetrate your system more quickly or cause irritation to sensitive or damaged skin, i.e. blemishes, sores or rash.
METHOD 2: Compress ~ Excellent for topical application to your heart or upper abdominal areas to ease symptoms of depression. Disperse 4-8 drops of your essential oil blend in a teaspoon of milk or honey and add to a small stainless steel bowl of “HOT” water. Absorb the "HOT" water into a wash cloth, using protective gloves, wring out excess water and apply compress to your heart area, repeat when your cloth cools. You may cover the warm cloth with a plastic sheet or a towel to keep it "HOT" longer.
METHOD 3: Dispense 15 drops of your essential oil blend into a 1 ounce bottle of your favorite carrier oil, shake your blend well and allow to synergize for 24 hours, or longer as time permits.
Dispense 1-3 drops of your essential oil dilution into the palm of your hand, inhale and apply to your temples, chest and upper abdominal areas. The oils will enter through the neurovascular gateways located in these areas to effectively trigger your healing response to promote balance and relief of your symptoms.
PLEASE NOTE: There are many cheap, synthetic copies of aromatic oils, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results purchase the highest quality oils you can possibly find. Use certified organic essential oils, or oils that have been tested and are pesticide free.
